Ferrari Performance Analysis Essays

Ferrari Performance Analysis Essays Ferrari Performance Analysis Paper Ferrari Performance Analysis Paper â€Å"Whats red, Italian and goes from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in three and a half seconds? † Ask this from any person on the street and you for sure will hear only one answer â€Å"Ferrari†. It was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1943, the first Ferrari was built in 1947 and that is when the legend begins. Now it is hard to think of any other car that can make anyone feel more exclusive. It`s not just a sport car you own it`s quality, passion, luxury and status that comes with it. We chose it for our group presentation for all of those reasons and also because it is an outstanding, not usual brand, with a very special marketing strategy and a small group of exclusive costumers. In order to have a clear understanding of company’s position, potential and direction we used many business measurement tools. First of all, PEST analysis, which helped us to get a better idea about macro-environment in which Ferrari operates. By establishing main Political, Economical, Social and Technological factors we were able to assess current market situation, predict future challenges that company will have to face and think about possible solutions for those problems. After analyzing external factors we`ve identified strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT analysis) in order to understand overall strategic position of the business. In other words, now we were able to evaluate on Ferraris’ internal environment and have a clear view of company’s perspectives, limitations and possible improvement areas. : To complete our environmental research we used Porters Five forces to find out about competition in the industry, potential of new entrants into industry, power of suppliers and customers, threat of substitute products Ferrari`s marketing strategy is also something that makes this company very special. This car is a legend in a world of supercars, everyone knows what a prancing horse logo or at list heard of it. However it never used a penny on advertisement. And indeed, have we seen a single advert about Ferrari? So how come we all know about it? To find the answer for this question have become an interesting challenge for our group. To evaluate our answer we used 4Ps theory or marketing mix theory which looks at the product, price, promotion and place, because a successful marketing mix is a base for successful company. The successful use of marketing mix means putting the right product in the right place, at the right price, at the right time. And from what we found in our investigation Ferrari have been doing quite well at that. It managed to produce a unique car, in which every detail is about passion- passion for speed, passion for quality, passion for excludability and luxury. Having a Ferrari is like having a piece of legend. So, here we have a unique product. Further Ferrari pricing strategy is a marketing masterpiece in itself. â€Å"Luxury sets price, price does not set luxury† ( Daye D. , 2010) -this phrase fully demonstrates Ferrari pricing principles. They know what is the right price for the product they offer as you don`t buy just a car, you buy status and quality. Next step, promotion. And here is where we found an answer for the first question that made us so passionate about this topic. To promote their product they simply did what they were best at doing- racing and building an ideal car for speed lovers. Such a simple but such a genius marketing strategy with passion going through its` every detail. Also the company have developed a market of merchandising that helped to expand the brand and increase customer awareness. And finally- the right place†¦ Ferrari is the most valuable exponent of the top quality Italian and German showrooms. No one but exclusive customers can enter these showrooms and this again shows company’s targeting principles- do not waste time on anyone who is not a potential customer. After using 4 Ps theory we`ve learned about main principles of the company and had a better knowledge of the way it works. We also found (From PEST and SWOT analysis) that as any company Ferrari faces some challenges. And that is why after finding enough information we tried to recommend some ways to resolve those problems. Our solutions are the result of group discussions as well as good individual research. We`ve made some basic recommendations such as: invest more money in CO2 emission problem and research and development in order to stay best in technology. Also one of the recommendations was to collaborate with other exclusive brands to produce even more exclusive Ferrari related products, for example collaborate with Rolex to produce exclusive watches. Those are quite common solution for common problems. However, as a group we also came up with some radical and rand new recommendations such as building a Ferrari hotels where only Ferrari owners would be able to stay or inventing a new brand in collaboration with other popular brand, to make something more affordable to middle classes but with a bit of Ferrari in it. This could help to increase their sales, however some would argue that more profits will come at cost of reputation of Ferrari as an exclusive brand that not everyone can afford. To su m up our group work: every member showed a lot of interest, creativity, passion and initiative. Everyone’s opinion was considered when making a decision and discussing the topic. However, more practice needed to improve our presentation skills: luck of confidence and practice have prevented us from making this topic as interesting to the audience as it was for ourselves. So if there is something that should have been done differently – is the amount of time spent on practice. Other than that I found that doing presentation with the group of people who are passionate about the topic was a great experience. Bhasin, H. (2010). Marketing mix Ferrari. Why Autumn Skies Are So Blue

Why Autumn Skies Are So Blue Have you ever noticed that fall skies appear to be a deeper, more saturated blue than normal?   What sorts of things can make the sky appear bluer, specifically during the fall season? Here are a few contributing factors: Falls Lower Humidity Fall is notorious for its pleasant weathernamely, its cooler temperatures and lower  relative humidity. As air temperatures cool, the amount of moisture that the air can hold  lessens. Less moisture means fewer clouds and haze occupying skies in September, October, and November. With little to no clouds or haze to veil the sky, its blue hue appears purer, and the sky itself, more open and vast. Falls Lower Sun Position As we progress  through autumn, the sun sits lower and lower in the sky. With the sun no longer directly overhead, you could say that more of the sky is significantly angled away from the sun. The Rayleigh scattering directs more blue light towards your eyes, while the indirect sunlight decreases the incoming levels of red and greenthe result of which is a more intense blue sky. Falls Foliage Believe it or not,  the very presence of  falls red, orange, and gold leaves actually  help give the skys blueness  a color boost. According to color theory, primary colors appear more brilliant when theyre  in contrast with their complementary colors.  Looking at a color wheel, you can see that  violet and blue (which are the two wavelengths of sunlight that are scattered for us to see and thus give the sky its characteristic blue hue) correspond to the  complementary colors of yellow, yellow-orange, and orange. Seeing any one of these leaf  colors against the backdrop of a clear blue sky makes the blue of the sky pop  that much more.

Human Factors in Aviation Safety Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Human Factors in Aviation Safety - Article Example This is illustrated using organization conditions such as effective communication, supervision and omissions that were attributed to the changes in the company. Having gone through this report, I would like to express my satisfaction with it. The examples given here are typical of how influential human factors are in aviation industry. It is true that the performance of employees in aviation sector heavily relies on the supervision levels given to them, their qualifications and professionalism. This is what can be attributed to the causes of MRMs as recorded in the report (Shappell, 1997). The errors made here clearly shows that human factors are so influential because they play very important roles in determining the out put and productivity of the aviation staff. Therefore, factors like employee motivation, training, safety and health should be taken seriously at all times. They can determine the successes of an organization. So, management should not be relaxed because it can result into errors and mistakes that can negatively impact on the overall performance and success of the

Paper Critique Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Paper Critique - Essay Example Moreover, the movie mixes the Spanish exploitation of gold in the 16th century with the Cochabamba war struggles in 2000 to bring out ideas relating to exploitation and globalization. This abstract aims to explicate the theme of sympathy, good fellowship and loyalty, and not just comparing historical events with the present. The recurrent theme described in this dramatic film is exploitation, hypocrisy and globalization. Costa, a film producer and Sebastian a young director are working together on a film (Columbus’s Arrival to Americas) they are planning to shoot in Bolivia, Cochabamba, but their friendship polarizes when dealing with business and moral integrity. The exploitation of the locals by these film makers portrays them as hypocrites and they face a stern opposition from the indigenous people. It is in Bolivia, the setting of their new movie that a water war breaks out forcing these film makers to make emotional journeys in variant directions (Laverty 220).There is more threat to the crew when Daniel becomes the leader of the indigenous people as they protest against the privatization of water and price increment by 300 per cent. More scenes of struggle against the indigenous people’s historical oppression and colonization are brought to light. The low living standards of the loca ls bring out an emotional sympathy while the conflicts bring into light the dangers of exploitation and oppression. African American Essay Example for Free

African American Essay James Baldwin once said, â€Å"I am what time, circumstance, history, have made of me, certainly, but I am also so much more than that. So are we all. † When the subject of race comes up, I feel like that quote is very meaningful. According to class lecture, race is an arbitrary social classification of clearly bounded categories based on skin color which corresponds to no biological reality. To be able to understand race today, a person should have a background on the history of race. According to the American Anthropological Association, by the 1600s, English colonists had established a system of indentured servitude that included both Europeans and Africans. But by the time of Bacon’s Rebellion the status of Africans began to change. Servants who once had an opportunity for freedom following servitude were relegated to a life of permanent slavery in the colonies. Thomas Jefferson was influential in the idea of race with a biological and social hierarchy. He stated that, â€Å"blacks, whether originally a distinct race, or made distinct by time and circumstances, are inferior to the whites in the endowments both of body and mind. Not only did people begin to base their opinions on Thomas Jefferson’s statement, but when Carolus Linnaeus developed a biological classification system and the German scientist Johann Blumenbach introduced a race-based classification of humans, the concept of race expanded and whites saw themselves as superior. I feel that even though race is so deeply embedded into our lives, and it also appears to be the natural order of things, it is not a useful way to talk about human variation. Skin color alone does not provide any reliable information about at person’s race, culture, or susceptibility to disease. Ryan A. Brown and George J. Armelagos in the review, Apportionment of Racial Diversity, makes a good point by saying, â€Å"A single trait such as skin color will result in a classification system that is easily determined. Add another trait and classification becomes a more difficult task, and there usually are groups that cannot be classified. † For too long people have been basing human variation on a person’s race. Many people are guilty of simply looking at an individual and grouping them by their skin color. The sorting exercise on the PBS website confirms this. When I completed the exercise, the results said that I only had grouped 3 individuals in the right group. I was using appearance and appearance only to classify the individuals. Appearance doesn’t always tell a person about someone’s ancestry of self-identity. It’s hard to make any accurate predictions based on appearance alone. According to the Me, My Race, and I reading on the PBS website, I realized that whites and nonwhites had very different things to say. A Caucasian individual stated, â€Å"race does not affect his life so he doesn’t dwell on it. † It is quite different for nonwhites. An African American male stated that he feels as if people automatically perceive him as a robber. An Asian said she was expected to be good at math and sciences, just because of the way she looked. According to the Why Genes Don’t Count (for Racial Differences in Health) article, Human variation is non-concordant. â€Å"Traits tend to vary independently of other traits. Race classifications vary, therefore, by the traits used in the classification. † For example, a classification based on the sickle cell trait might include equatorial Africans, Greeks, and Turks. Sickle cell is not a â€Å"black† disease. According to AAA, â€Å"Contrary to popular perception, the gene variant that causes sickle cell disease evolved as a result of its surprising upside – malaria resistance. The gene variant for sickle cell disease is related to malaria, not skin color. † There is no possibility for consistency. Because skin color correlates with only a few other phenotype traits such as hair and eye color, it is true that â€Å"race is only skin deep. † Another reason why I would say race is not a useful way to talk about human variation is the reason that human variation is continuous. Alan H. Goodman, PhD says â€Å"there is no clear place to designate where one race begins and another ends. Skin color, for example, slowly changes from place to place. † Whether than using race to talk about human variation, I think there is a better way to talk about groups of humans. I think the better way to talk about groups of humans is based on culture. In lecture we learned how a person’s ethnic group is the emphasis of cultural construction over genes. Ethnicity is a multifactorial concept including, but not limited to cultural constructs, genetic background, ecological specialization, and self-specialization. According to the article Culture, Not Race, Explains Human Diversity, â€Å"races† are imagined by the public and do not actually exist. If you think about it, ethnicity/culture is such a better way to talk about groups of people rather than grouping according to skin color. Skin color is based simply on appearance, whereas ethnicity/culture brings multiple concepts into play. Mark Nathan Cohen says, â€Å"The anthropological concept of culture can be explained best by an analogy with language. Just as language is more than vocabulary, culture is more than, say art and music. † Culture structures our behavior, thoughts, perceptions, values, goals, morals, and cognitive processes. Mr. Cohen makes a good point by stressing that people should stray from their egocentric ways and look more carefully at what other people are doing and try to understand their behavior in context before judgment. A person’s culture shapes many things once thought determined by biology, including sexuality, aggression, perception, and susceptibility to disease. This exercise of exploring on the websites and reading all the outside readings, did reinforce our classroom discussions. One thing that stood out to me was the fact that we talked about a girl from Lau Lagoon, Solomon Islands who had dark skin but was born with blond hair. This example also came up in our outside reading as an example. This emphasized that skin color does not come with a certain set of hair colors. Another way this exercise reinforced our classroom discussion was that the websites and reading both reinforced the concept that race has no genetic basis. Not one characteristic, trait or gene distinguishes all members of one so-called race from all members of another so-called society. I feel that that was the overall major concept that was learned in both this exercise and classroom lecture. As I was on the PBS website, I came across one of the background reading entitled â€Å"Where Race Lives. † I found this article very interesting because I read that in 1993, â€Å"86% of suburban whites still lived in places with a black population of less than 1%. † This was interesting to me because in 1994 my family moved to what was considered a white suburb. Even though I was only 1 years of age, at the time, my mom told me that we were 1 of the 2 African Americans families living in the neighborhood at the time. We were the only African American family on our street at the time. Today our street has more African American families on it than white families. It is sad to say but as more African American families moved on our street, more white families moved away. All in all, Genes and environments work together to make each person unique. Why just look at a person’s skin color and make judgments, when there is more to a person than their skin color. Characteristics such as skin color, height and susceptibility to disease are determined by complex combinations of genetic traits, environmental factors and cultural experience.

Internet Issues :: Exploratory Essays Research Papers

Internet Issues    The Internet is a wide network of computers around the world.   It allows many computers to communicate and share information, with few physical boundaries.   It has become an integral part of today's society.   Today, almost everyone in the US can access the Internet.   It is a valuable asset for people doing research as well as new form of entertainment for many people addicted to the world wide web.      With this great advancement in technology, many people are signing up for accounts with ISP's and people wait in line at their local libraries, just to surf the web.   The Internet has become so accessible and so high in demand, that now even pocket organizers come equipped with 33.6 KBPS modems so that people can connect to the Internet from any location in the world with a phone line.   This new technology, however is not without its   shortcomings.  Ã‚   In fact people are constantly praising it, that they don't always realize the pitfalls of the Internet.      Many people go on the Internet every day to do research or to catch up on current events.   However, one must realize that no one owns the Internet and therefore it is difficult for one organization to control it.   This makes it very easy for people to release false information and to spread propaganda, with almost no laws to stop them.   Even though there are laws restricting people as to what may be posted on the Internet, the Internet is so large that no one can really enforce all the laws.   It may take years for a government agency to find a site with illegal content.   A government also cannot control a site's content if the site is located on a computer outside the physical boundaries of the country.   Also, anyone wishing to spread a rumor can do so by e-mail and the false information will spread around the world like wildfire.   Thousands of users logged into the Internet everyday access information via e-mail, newsgroups, world wide web pages and many other w ays, but how much of the information they access can be trusted to be true.   It has always been a good rule of thumb to only trust corporate or government sites, but what if it were them who also spread false information.   And why shouldn't they? They have nothing to lose by spreading rumors about their competitors, after all.

Modernism vs. Victorianism

According to the Witcombe, in his website regarding modernism, anything is modern at the time it was created. Strictly speaking, modern refers to the a certain period in history, more or less around the 1860s, where pieces of art depict ideologies and philosophies. Art works of this period include Manet, Belvedere, Louis David, de Goya, and Courbet, to name a few. These pieces portray ideas that seemed taboo, or too different from the what society believes in. Because prior to the turn of the Modern Age, ideas for art were too â€Å"old fashioned† as many has deemed. They seemed rigid, or stifled. These art works are categorized under Victorianism. Victorianism refers to a period where Queen Victoria reigned. During this period, many aspects of society, from science, politics and religion, were a stark contrast to the modern age. As written in the website The Victorian Web, this period is a high for inventions, where man is able to to create means for the improvement on how man lives. On this aspect of society, Victorianism is at an advantage. However, in regards to their religion, the people underwent â€Å"a great age of doubt†.Their literature was an attempt to combine Romantic and Neoclassical eras, focusing on emotions and the role of art and the artists to the public. This period also gave emphasis on movements such as democracy, feminism, socialism and Marxism. There were many established names such as Darwin, Marx, and Freud, that gave way to the Modern Era. In the same website, they said that Victorianism is a parent to Modernism, and as such, there was a strong reaction to the parent. Modernism gives light to the need to find what was holding society back to the â€Å"Old Fashioned†.By having more emphasis on the progress of society, Modernism strongly opposes the ideals of Victorianism. This is evident with the projects and creations of this period, the focal points were very different. Witcombe quoted Salvador Dali, modernism is â€Å"a revolution in consciousness. † One can assume that since Victorianism is related to a very strict parents, Modernism as a child will strongly repel these ideals and create his own. Modernism focuses on freedom. By comparing the many art works from paintings to literature, to science and technology, one cannot be mistaken of the differences between these two periods.Another metaphor can be a sealed bottle. Victorianism refers to that sealed bottle, and that would be art in itself. However, people would have noticed that a sealed bottle would have served no purpose to society. There were instances where a sealed bottle could have done something more progressive for society, and not just for aesthetic values. But it is not enough for others. These people would be the forefathers of modernism. They didn't want a sealed bottle. They want an open bottle, with all its contents pouring out. That would be art, the dynamic factors of modernist approach calls for greater improvem ent. It inevitably foresees progress. As a natural reaction, anything that is repressed tends to fight back, to go to the extreme opposite. This is evident in many cases, as it is here between Modernism and Victorianism. The people back then, in the regime of Queen Victoria, were gullible, always easy to follow and be affected by what authority and society dictates. The modernist people thought that there must be a time when they can think for themselves, and be liberated by the chains of society. There were so many things that could more than tickle a man's imagination during the former period, and according to ChangingMinds. org, the thoughts and information that cannot be fully handled by the mind, is taken aside and processed in a different manner. Effects reflect in a different manner. This is called Repression. In the case between these two periods, the people had been repressed in such a way that the matters where their eyes should be open, their eyes have been closed either b y society, or by those in authority, using threats or unwanted consequences as an exchange for disobedience. In conclusion, Modernism is the reaction to Victorianism because of the repression on the ideals and practices of the people. Modernism is the point where the consciousness of the people have been opened to even greater ideas, philosophies, and possibilities. The people were liberated to reality with the use of the many aspects of society, pushing it forward. Remaining at a state where one is not challenged, stagnant at a point where life is dull, is never a good thing. Man would not be where he is to this day without this turning point. However, human beings will inevitably have such a turning point, for the complex mind of man can be more cunning than we perceive. He will never be content, and will always aspire for changes. The Patriot Movie

The Patriot Movie The Patriot movie has been a great movie. All the scenes were incredible and others were devastating. Having to watch this history movie has become one of my favorite movies with the scenes that I have chosen. My first scene I chose was actually a very sad part of the movie. It was when Benjamins 2nd oldest son was shot by one of the British cruel leaders. He was killed because he was trying to free his oldest son Gabriel and was shot instead. After that, Benjamin became upset because the British leader ended up ordering to kill the wounded American’s and burned his house down.He got his sons, the guns and went after them to get his oldest son. They ended up killing all the soldiers and made sure they all died and ended up freeing his son from getting executed. The reaction I got from this part of the movie was very shocking that they would kill a kid and burn down a whole house. It’s also shocking that they were allowed to do all that. What I liked ab out it though was that he went after his son and did not care about what he had to do, he just had to decide it and go after it. The second scene I chose was when Gabriel went to the church and tried to ask for people to join.At the church the pastor asked for him to leave and was trying to make him leave but he wouldn’t. Anne, his future wife ends up helping him and convinces everyone to let him talk and started talking about how everyone is always talking about helping, independence and freedom. That they should act upon what they believe and help. After all that I like that he asked her father if he can write to her while he is at war. My reaction to this was very interesting how she defended him and actually helped him get the people’s attention. How she spoke up to everyone and just what was her opinion and what she thought was right. I just felt it was right and that she used her freedom of speech and spoke up The third scene I have chosen was when Benjamin tricke d the soldiers and took his back by talking to the British commander. Tavington got very angry and found out about 7 soldiers homes and went after Benjamins family. His family ended up noticing and hid, some of the American soldiers showed up and took his family while others fought the rest of the British soldiers.By this time I was really interested in this part and was glad that they ended up hiding. I was shocked most of the movie but this part was another main one. It was shocking when I was expecting them to catch one of his younger sons under the table. The fourth scene would be when Gabriel’s wife goes home after their marriage and shows up to the British soldiers gathering her whole village in a temple. The soldiers locked them in and burned it. Later on Gabriel went and found everything and could not find his wife so he went after Tavington and ended up getting killed by him.I felt so sad when this happened. I was very confident at first, happy that Tavington was get ting killed until he turned around and stabbed Gabriel. A Very disappointing feeling and shocked once more. The last and fifth scene was when they were all fighting against each other. And most of his close soldiers were dieing and when he found Tavington they got into a big fight. Tavington almost killed Benjamin, but Benjamin ended up switching it around. I knew it was going to end in a positive way but at that moment I was just curious of what else could of happened.I didn’t think that Benjamin was going to get out of that death and it shocked me the most. Very shocking movie. My reaction to this whole movie was a lot of twisted feelings. It was a very sad, shocking movie and I couldn’t really predict on what would happen next. It has to be one of my favorite war movies and I’m glad I watched it. I would definitely recommend it to someone who was in a history class to watch it. I’m glad it ended in a good note and was just surprised in all the twisted things it had and was just disappointed on who did not make it to the end. A good movie, with a good end.

Dmanisi essays

Dmanisi essays The site of Dmanisi (Eastern Georgia), is approximately 1.7 million years old and is located approximately eighty-five kilometers southwest of the Georgian capital of Tbilisi and twenty kilometers north of the countrys border with Armenia, located near the lower Caucasus Mountains. The environmental setting surrounding Dmanisi was relatively a mild Mediterranean climate. The presence of the Black Sea to the west and the Caspian Sea to the east ensures an environmental setting that provided hominids with extensive lithic resources that were used for tool production. This region also appears to have been ecologically diverse. It is rich in animal and plant resources, and it contains the remains of deer and horse animal bones. The location of the Dmanisi site would have attracted many hominids as well as many animals because of its proximity to the water. The key findings in this site include four hominid skulls, two-thousand stone tools and thousands of animal fossils. Dmanisi was an important city from early medieval times. It is located overlooking two rivers, surrounded by the gentle green hills of the southern Caucasus, where Europe meets Asia. The remains of this ancient Silk Road that stretched from Europe to China pass nearby. Merchant caravans laden with silk and spices once stopped here to water their animals and refresh themselves in the shadows of the medieval castle that once ruled the region. But beneath all of this lies the rock of an ancient volcanic eruption that spewed molten lava about 1.8 million years ago. It is here that researchers continue to uncover human fossil remains. In 1991, David Lordkipanidze, a leading geologist and paleontologist was leading the excavation of the Dmanisi site when his crew found a hominid bone underneath the skeleton of a saber-tooth cat. Before David Lordkipanidze excavated the site in 1991, a paleontologist by the name of Abesalom Vekua had been excavating the site since 1983....

Self-strengthening movernment in China - Essay Example Modern scholars of Chinese national security questions would do well to give attention to a hundred-year period that marked a truly pivotal moment within that 4000-year span. The turning point in the Chinese history came in the nineteenth century, requiring as it does careful attention to the administration’s dealings with the great powers of Europe, the United States, and Japan. The Qing Dynasty which was in control more or less of the Empire since 1644, found itself at mid-century unable to ignore dealing with the foreign barbarians, and this required extensive review of its economic, diplomatic and military policies and procedures. The power to create change to these areas and modernize Chinese armed forces in particular can be remembered as the Self-Strengthening Movement1. The Self-Strengthening Movement, as the name indicates, advocated by a group of Qing officials who wanted to strengthen the weak leadership by learning technology from the western countries. The Self-St rengthening Movement was also a period of institutional reforms introduced during the late Qing Dynasty following a number of military defeats and concessions to western powers. Unfortunately, this movement can be considered as a failure because China did not be able to defend itself during the Sino-French and Sino-Japanese wars. The failure of the Self –Strengthening Movement can be connected to a number of reasons one being the limited number of skilled man power, which led to the collapse of the self-strengthening movement. Transmission of technology was small in 1881 when the project of sending boys to western countries like United States of America to study stopped. China did not realize that one of the real reasons was its corrupt system and government. There was wide spread corruption in the government of China which can be seen as a factor to the collapse of self-strengthening movement in China. An example is the Dowager Empress which spent over 30 million Taels of fu nds meant for the naval to constructing the Summer Palace for her own â€Å"amusement during retirement† as Hsu stated. The 30 million Taels meant to fund and support the navy of china. Hsu also noted that Li Hongzhang can be â€Å"not noted for high morals and character†. Apparently, Li left behind an estate estimated to be worth over 40 million Taels that the people close to him â€Å"milked and squeezed the factories and enterprises under their charge mercilessly.† Many more events led to the collapse of the self-strengthening movement in china one of them being the western merchants withdrawing their capital in China and ceasing to trade. The coastal merchants all became bankrupt and their original strength became extremely drained. The populace in turn, moved away and became vagrants. In some day, they may be frightened several times without being able to protect their own lives. The Chinese merchants even suffered more. In the self-strengthening movement w hich involved more wars, the Chinese merchants, merely caused trouble to themselves2. The Self-strengthening movement had a limited scope of activities to carry out. According to Hsu, the self-strengthening movement only went as far as improving â€Å"machines, ships, firearms, mining, light industry and communications. No efforts existed to integrate Western organizations, culture, arts, and philosophy.†
