Humans vs. Nature: Greenpeace There are an incredible amount of problems facing the modern world. Sometimes the problems go unnoticed while other times they get addressed and fixed. That is what has been happening with pollution and other environmental concerns since 1971. In that year, the organization called Greenpeace was created. Since then the group has jumpstarted many incredible changes dealing with the world around us. Greenpeace has done a great amount of environmental work with the aim of making the world a cleaner, safer, and better place to live. Catchy posters are put in strategic and visible areas where everyone can see their stance on an issue. Greenpeace wants people to notice what they are saying, form an opinion on it and hopefully agree with them. However, not everyone agrees with them though. There have been many opponents to Greenpeace since its inception in 1971. Some large corporations dislike Greenpeace because the group can cause them to lose money when it is made public how much they pollute. For example, one company that was upset with Greenpeace is The Home Depot, a large do it yourself store. Greenpeace was opposed to their selling of wood taken from ancient forests. They organized protests and created a boycott of Home Depot. Also, officials in the Marshall Islands are upset with Greenpeace because the officials want to raise money for a study on the disposal of Asian nuclear waste in the islands. (3) If they let a waste site be built, they would end up making a lot of money. Greenpeace opposed the plan because all nuclear waste is harmful. Hardball Essay Bio: 16 year old high school studentEssay:Gambling addict Connor ONeil ends up deep in debt after he borrows money from almost every loan shop in town to fuel his addiction. In order to pay the mounds of money that he owes, he is requested to coach a little-league baseball team, the Kekambas. At first, Connor doesnt start off right with the kids and doesnt see the point of him being there. Even though Connor paid the kids no attention, they were somehow inspired by his presence. Later, He realizes that he must come to grips at what he wants in his life, and ultimately forms a special bond with the kids on the team. At the beginning of the movie, we see Connor ONeil at his worst. The personality traits he has are reflective of an orange. One of the more positive traits is being able to take decisive action. This can been seen in beginning of the movie, where he is in James office, and he immediately decides to coach the Kekambas, after the promise of a steady income. Connor shows that he likes sports, by always watching or betting on basketball games, and baseball games. Another good trait is his ability to solve problems, as he did when there was a shortage in jerseys. He solved this problem by telling G-baby of the shortage, but still letting him stay on the team. He is very much a risk-taker, and loves to live for the moment. This can be proven, as he is constantly gambling in the beginning, even if he needs to borrow money to pay off his huge debts. Connor possesses many typical behaviours of an out-of-esteem orange, as well. First, he uses stimulants, such as drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and etc., when things dont go his way, as seen in first couple of scenes. Second, he is physically aggressive, as shown in the quote, no one can kick my ass better than I can. Third he showed that he wanted to drop out of coaching the Kekambas by saying, Im bailing out, when he found it uninteresting. Finally, he lied to Ms. Wilks, by saying he was a businessman, who just finished an errand in Canada. Even though Connor is wary of coaching at first, he begins to see the harsh reality of the kids lives and the nature of being brought up in such a tough neighborhood. Throughout the movie he develops into a blue. This is represented in his new and improved personality traits, which are: sensitive, caring and relationship-orientated. The sensitive and caring Connor can be seen when he starts driving the kids home and making sure they get home safely every night. He becomes relationship-orientated, as he apologized to Ms. Wilks, and with the kids by taking them to see a real baseball game. A nother trait he develops is being emotional, as he was almost on the verge of tears, when making his speech during G-babys funeral. Also, at the funeral he says, I was terrified for him. This shows that he has become empathetic towards others. Even though he possesses these new blue traits, he still balanced them well with some of his orange traits. Some of the orange traits he keeps still being a sports lover. Another trait is his knack of solving problems in a major situation. This is shown towards the end of the movie, when he decided to lead the crowd in singing the lyrics to the song Miles always listens to, in order to help him pitch better. Once a rebellious orange, he turns into a fun, sports-loving, emotional caring blue-orange that bonds with the children and no longer wants to gamble, scalp tickets, or throw his life away. He ends up loving to do what he initially was doubtful of: coaching a little-league baseball team in the projects. His personality definitely changes f or the better and he comes out of it a new person.

Nicholas: The Last Tsar Nicholas: The Last Tsar In his book, The Last Tsar, Edvard Radzinsky describes a very interesting viewpoint of the life and death of Nicholas Alexandrovich, the last Russian Tsar. Radzinsky's illustration of this ill-fated monarch follows the diaries of Nicholas from their beginning on March 1, 1881, to the final entry on July 16, 1918.1 Radzinsky mainly goes over pre-marital relationship between Nicholas and Alexandra, the medical condition of Nicholas' son, Alexei, and the imprisonment and execution of Nicholas and his family. The relationship between Nicholas II and Alexandra began in 1884. Alexandra, the daughter of Louis IV, the Grand Duke of Hesse-Darmstadt, a tiny state in Germany, was born in 1872.2 Her grandmother was Queen Victoria of England, her oldest sister married an English prince, her second sister married a Russian Grand Duke and her third sister married a German prince. Nicholas and Alexandra met during the wedding of her second sister, Ella, to Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich. Alexandra was only twelve and Nicholas was only sixteen, but he stated in his diary that he fell in love with her a first sight. Nicholas' father, Tsar Alexander III, did not approve of Alexandra, because of the fact that she was the granddaughter of the English Queen. Instead, he suggested that Nicholas marry a princess from the House of Orleans. His decision was basely mainly on politics, as he was striving for an alliance between Russia and France. Alexander's suggestion did not have any effect on Nicholas, as he seemed certain to marry his childhood sweetheart, Alexandra. That day came in 1894, when Alexander was on his deathbed, suffering from a kidney disease that he had contracted in a train wreck six years earlier. On April 8, 1894, at the wedding of Alexandra's brother, her and Nicholas were engaged.3 On November 14, 1894, a month after the death of his father Nicholas married Alexandra and officially became the tsar of Russia. Alexei Nikolaevich, the first son of Nicholas and Alexandra was born on July 30, 1904, following the births of four daughters. The problem of who would rule Russia in case of an accident to Nicholas was solved. However, there was a new problem, as Alexei was diagnosed with hemophilia. Hemophilia is a disease that weakened the walls of the arteries so that "any blow or intense pressure can cause the blood vessels to burst and can mean the end."4 Rumours of a holy man, named Grigory Rasputin, however, living in the backwoods of Siberia gave rise to Alexander's hopes that her son's hemophilia could be cured. Rasputin possessed what some called a gift of healing, as he repeatedly healed possibly fatal wounds suffered by Alexei.5 The first time he helped Alexei was when Alexei had suffered a bruise on his leg was in agonizing pain. Rasputin walked to Alexei's bed, grasped Alexei's leg and healed the possibly fatal bruise. There are many stories where Rasputin healed Alexei without physically being there. For example, in 1912, Alexei was suffering from a common cold. When he tried to blow his nose, the blood vessels burst and the blood began to gush. The doctors could do nothing to help. When all hope was fading, they received a telegram from Rasputin. It read "God will help you, be healthy,"6 Nicholas II was forced to end the Romanov rule over Russia after three hundred years, as he forfeited the throne on March 2, 1917 because of the Russian Revolution. However, the people were still so upset with him, that the Petrograd Soviet of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies passed a decree the day following the abdication. The Deputies ordered the arrest of Nicholas II and the members of the Romanov dynasty on March 3, 1917. The family and everyone who remained with them were to be isolated from the outside world within the confines of Alexander's Palace, complete with an inside and outside guard. However, soon after, rumours were spreading that claimed the imperial family had escaped to England. Therefore, the provisional government sent the family and their servants to Tobolsk, in Siberia, on July 31, 1917.7 After spending about nine months under heavy supervision, the family was going to be transported to Moscow to stand trial for treason against Russia. However, this plan was only a fake, as the family was never intended to make it to Moscow. The real plan was that the Uralite Bolsheviks would seize the train on its way to Moscow and take the family to the Uralite capital of Ekaterinburg.8 In Ekaterinburg, the family was put in a prison in one of the
